It’s All About The Babito

The Silliness of the State of the Union Address

Does anyone else find the State of the Union Address silly?  The President is constantly interrupted by applause and standing ovations by the Republicans or the entire Congress, depending on what the topic is.  It drags a 15 minute speech out to an hour.  It’s interesting to see what the Democrats will clap and stand for.  They jump out of their seats when the President thanks the troops in Iraq but sit down immediately when he says the surge is working.  They stand and cheer for renewable energy but sit on their hands when he talks about the need for increased nuclear energy.  It’s all just silly.

And what was Nancy Pelosi doing in the background during the entire speech?  Was that a copy of the speech she was reading?  Why doesn’t she just listen to the speech instead of fiddling with that little book?  It really reminded me of being at a wedding and reviewing the program to see how much more stuff you have to sit through before the wedding is finally over.

I was wondering the same thing about Nancy Pelosi. I’m thinking it must have been some type of handout because the same book is sitting on the table in front of Dick Cheney.

That is hi-larious about Nancy P reading her little book. I think she’s reading Grisham’s latest or maybe a romance novel. But the speech isn’t that bad if you play a drinking game during it. Every time there’s mass applause, you drink. It’s educational and hydrating. You can also die of alcohol poisoning, but . . . those are the brakes.

Tara: It must’ve been a copy of the speech. She was probably reading ahead to see when she’d have to stand up again.

AB: I like your drinking game idea, I’ll have to try it next year. Wouldn’t it have been funny if she was sitting back there reading People or Us Weekly or something? Or maybe filing her nails or doing her bills or talking on her cell phone or something.
