Should I Buy A Mac???

Ok, bonus time is just around the corner and I’ve been wanting a new computer for a few years now.  I’m seriously considering switching from a PC to a Mac.  Should I buy a Mac???

I really only use the home computer for e-mail, pictures, video, and, of course, blogging.  I don’t play computer games or anything like that.

Any of you out there with a Mac (or anyone with experience with a Mac) please provide your input.  Is it difficult to move your files over?  Any input you all could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend a Mac. In my opinion, they’re so much better (easier to use) than PCs. About 5 years ago, I was in the same position you are in. I was looking for a new computer, and I couldn’t decide if I wanted to continue using PCs just because I was familiar with them, or if I wanted to purchase a Mac. I talked to a few friends and decided to buy an Apple Powerbook. After that purchase I swore I would never buy another PC again.

I’ve never had problems with Apple products. The hard drive on my Powerbook did crash, but that was all my fault (I dropped it a few times). Macs don’t get viruses, so that’s a major plus. And, the computer works right out of the box. You don’t have to install tons of software; you don’t have tons of wires, etc. I’m not a technical genius, but I do know that Macs are capable of running Windows programs, so I wouldn’t think transferring over files from your PC would be that difficult.

I recently purchased the new iMac back in September, and I absolutely love it. I deal with PCs everyday at work, and I always look forward to going home and using my hassle free Mac. It really is that much better.

Tara: Thanks for your input! I’m really leaning towards getting the iMac. What size monitor did you get, 20″ or 24″? I’m thinking the 20″ would be plenty big enough. Did you have trouble moving your files over from your PC?

  • Tara says:

I got the 20″ monitor. The 24″ is absolutely huge (for a computer).

I only had a few files to move over, but I didn’t have any issues. The Apple support is really helpful, so I’m sure if you had any questions they would have the answers.

There is no comparison. I would buy a Mac. I can only sum up the 200 or so differences briefly with the following example: When you turn your windows run PC on how long does it take before you can work? 2 mins.? 5 mins? 15 mins.? A Mac takes about 10 seconds to boot up. That is just scratching the surface of what superior engineering can do for you. Good luck, have fun!

    Moving Files:

A lot of options here for you depending on what the files are. You can either have people at the Apple Store help you with it. You can even partition your drive on the Mac and install windows on a portion of the drive if you must.

    Tara: Thanks!

Nick: Thanks for the input. I’d mostly just be moving music and pictures, so I’d probably just save them on my external hard drive and then copy them over that way. No, I have no real desire to install windows….I’m trying to get away from it! How funny that you used the boot up example. I waited a good 5 minutes this morning for my office PC to boot up!
