In Search of Big Wheel
One of my fondest childhood memories is the many, many hours I spent racing my little brother on our Big Wheels. We would ride these things until the plastic wheels began to crack and break apart. I used to love to speed down the sidewalk, pull on the sidebrake and go into a perfect 180 degree turn. Big Wheels were the best.
Did anyone else out there have a Big Wheel? Any Big Wheel stories you’d like to share? I’d love to hear them.
I desperately wanted to get The Babito a Big Wheel so he could experience the joys I experienced as a child. Alas, the Big Wheel is now a rare find. The company that originally made them has gone bankrupt. There are many imitators out there, but no real Big Wheel. Sometimes life isn’t fair.

Aww, that’s sad they went bankrupt. I don’t think I ever had a big wheel, but I’ve seen the imitators out there recently, they’re not as cute
We bought our daughter one of those push trike’s for toddlers so we can help a bit with the steering for now
The big wheel was pretty great DD. My brother got one, and we had to share it, but we loved driving it down this grass hill near our house. Sometimes one of us would take a pretty bad tumble, but those were the days. I hope you can find the babito one.
omg i had a strawberry shortcake or something like that big wheel. i LOVED it. good luck!
I’m gonna have to keep my eyes open for one at a garage sale then. I never knew they stopped making them.
I had a Big Wheel! One of the original ones too! Every kid in our neighborhood had one. We rode up and down the sidewalks every day on those things. My parents HAD to have considered that money well spent!
Sandy: You missed out on the Big Wheels. They were great! We got the Babito one of those push-trikes too and he loves to push it around the house.
Leaky: Tumbles were a daily occurrence. My brother and I used to beat our Big Wheels up, break the handlebars off, etc. San Francisco has an annual Big Wheel race for adults. We should go up and race one year!
Becky: I remember the Strawberry Shortcake one!
Jared: See my latest post. I found one.
Terri: They were very popular back in the day. I’m surprised a toy company hasn’t bought the rights to The Big Wheel name. They were definitely worth the money.
