Does the thought of death ever hit you unexpectedly? For me, every once in a while, usually as I’m in bed about to go to sleep, my mind temporarily becomes obsessed with the thought of death. I start thinking about what happens when you die, and I momentarily panic to the point where I have to literally jump out of bed and do something to take my mind off of it.
I don’t panic because I think I may be going to hell for things I have or haven’t done. I panic because I start thinking about the fact that there could just be nothing after death. You’re just gone. It’s very frightening when it happens.
Usually I don’t put much thought into it. I think most of us just try to put it out of our mind. Don’t get me wrong, usually I have faith in God, and I think it’s grown stronger since I’ve been married and have started going to Mass regularly, but still, the lingering doubt hits me every once in a while, and I really hate when it does.
What about you?

I got back from Catalina last night and no, I did NOT spill anything on my pants!
I also got the bright idea to change my theme. I was up until 1:00am working on it, and now I’m paying the price. Why do I do these things to myself? I never should have started working on it, because I know my OCD will kick in and I can’t stop myself. I still have some work to do on it. I want to change the white background to a nice, clean color but I haven’t decided on one yet.
Please let me know what you think in the comments. =)

So I’m packing for my one-night business trip and I make the mistake of asking my adorable wife to help me pack.
As I’m packing my clothes she asks me if I packed an extra pair of pants.
Daddy Dan: ”An extra pair for what? I’m only going to be gone for one day.”
Adorable Wife: ”Well, what if you spill something on them and have to change?”
DD: “I’m not going to spill anything on them. What would I spill on them?”
AW: ”Ok, just remember I told you.”
DD: ”Ok, I’ll remember.”
I didn’t pack an extra pair of pants.
AW: ”Did you pack a pair of shorts for tomorrow night?”
DD: ”Why shorts?”
AW: “What if the hotel catches on fire and you have to evacuate?”
To put her mind at ease and not have to worry about me standing outside in the middle of the night in my boxer briefs I packed a pair of shorts.
And if worse comes to worse I could always put them on if I spill something on my pants.
Women!!! =)

As I’ve gone through this blog journey, I couldn’t help but notice that it seemed that the vast preponderance of blogs are written by women.
I knew about the big Daddy blogger sites such as Dad Gone Mad, The Father Life, MetroDad, and a few others, but haven’t really searched out other Daddy blogs until recently.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some great Mommy blogs out there that I love reading, including Momisodes and Happy Working Mom. It’s just that I want to connect with and follow fellow Daddy bloggers and learn from their experiences.
I was surprised to find that there is a vast number of Daddy bloggers out there. A Dad’s Life has a comprehensive list (despite it not including ME) of Daddy bloggers (184 to date). It’s great to see so many other Dads interested in blogging about their experiences. I definitely plan on checking out some of these blogs and adding them to my Google Reader.
Know of any great Daddy bloggers out there? Please point me to them in the comments. It’s time I start some bonding with my own people!
In addition, I’ve updated my blogroll (see on right) to highlight Daddy and Mommy blogs. I’ve also added a special “Mommy-to-Be” category for a few of my favorite bloggers, who are currently expecting! Congratulations Nanette and Kay!!!

One of my fondest childhood memories is the many, many hours I spent racing my little brother on our Big Wheels. We would ride these things until the plastic wheels began to crack and break apart. I used to love to speed down the sidewalk, pull on the sidebrake and go into a perfect 180 degree turn. Big Wheels were the best.
Did anyone else out there have a Big Wheel? Any Big Wheel stories you’d like to share? I’d love to hear them.
I desperately wanted to get The Babito a Big Wheel so he could experience the joys I experienced as a child. Alas, the Big Wheel is now a rare find. The company that originally made them has gone bankrupt. There are many imitators out there, but no real Big Wheel. Sometimes life isn’t fair.

Please check out my new site….I’ll still be posting non-Daddy/parenting type stuff here, so I hope you keep coming back.
DaddyDan.com is more of a secondary site, for now. (But it IS prettier than this one!)
