What I’m Thankful For

  1. My Wife – Although we have our disagreements from time to time (and what couple doesn’t) I love my wife to death. She is always there for me, encouraging me, believing in me, and loving me despite my shortcomings. I truly adore her and Thank God every day that she came into my life.
  2. The Babito – The little boy who changed our lives so much for the better. I am amazed at how much love I have for him and how much love he has for me and his Mommy. I am so proud to be called his Daddy.
  3. My Job – Although it’s not my dream job, my job provides stimulation and challenges, allows us to have all we want and need in life, isn’t so demanding that I have to work late hours, and provided me the opportunity to meet a lot of really great people.
  4. My Family – This includes both my and my wife’s sides of the family. I am so thankful to have both my parents and Helen’s mother so involved in the Babito’s life. He’s lucky to have such wonderful grandparents.
  5. My Dogs – Although they can sometimes be real pitas, I truly love our two dogs. Even though they don’t get nearly the attention they used to get pre-Babito, their unconditional love for us is truly wonderful.
  6. My Country – I’m thankful to live in the best country in the world. People around the world love to put this country down, but I’d hate to see how the world would be without us.
  7. Our Troops – Thank God for all of the troops, including my nephew, who voluntarily risk their lives every day, for low pay and with little recognition. Their sacrifices should be an inspiration to us all.  God Bless Them.

Random Thought Thursday – 11/15/07

  • I’ve noticed that at least 90% of the people that visit this blog are women. I’m basing this estimate on the comments I receive. The only regular male commenters are Virgilius, Nick, and BC. I wonder why that is. Is it because I don’t talk much about sports, cars, women, etc? Are women more prone to blogging and reading other blogs? Or do I have more male readers than I think and they just don’t comment. I wonder. What do you think?
  • Have you watched The World Series of Poker on ESPN? I don’t know why, but I love watching poker on TV. You’d think it’d be boring, but it’s not. And the prize money is outrageous, and not just for the winner. Those poker players make bank. Where does the money come from? How much do you have to pay to get into the tournament? Anyone know? I’d never do it because I usually don’t even win at poker game when we get together with the neighbors.
  • I no longer care about the NBA or the Lakers. I used to be the biggest fan, especially during their heyday with Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Rambis, etc. I wouldn’t miss a game back then. It’s just not the same anymore. Now I hardly ever watch. I’m not sure why that is, but I’d much prefer to watch college basketball now.
  • Doesn’t it seem like the U.S. public is slipping into complacency about terrorism again?  I think most people would be absolutely shocked if we had another major terrorist attack. Unfortunately I think we’ll probably have another one before too long. I pray we don’t. The thought of Iran developing nuclear weapons scares the crap out of me. What’s to stop them from providing one to terrorists and how would we ever be able to stop them? All of these people saying that we shouldn’t be threatening Iran right now will be the first ones to say that President Bush and the government should of done more to stop them if something terrible happens.

Random Thought Thursday (they’re not really thoughts, more like comments)

  • I just checked my DVR to make sure it was planning on taping The Office for me tomorrow (tonight probably by the time most of you read this) only to find that it isn’t on the schedule! I went to NBC.com to see what was going on and it says that it IS on. What’s going on? I guess I’ll have to watch it live or tape the show my DVR says is going to be on in its place. It must have something to do with the World Series. They probably didn’t want to compete with it, but now that the World Series ended so soon they put The Office back on the schedule. Whew! What would I have blogged about tomorrow night?!?
  • It’s really quite sad, but my employer has blocked all blogs on our computers, including all Wordpress and Blogspot blogs. That sucks. Really, I promise, I was only looking at blogs on my lunch hour and breaks. The only way I can read posts now is through Google Reader, but I can’t comment. Boo hoo for me.
  • I was watching the Colbert Report tonight and they were talking about a website, Opensecrets.org, that allows you to see who is donating to the various presidential candidates. You can view the data in many different ways, including by state, zip code, city, or even look up individual donors. It also has the information for congressional candidates. Hillary Clinton leads the way with $90 million, followed by Barack Obama with $80 million, and Mitt Romney with $62 million. Bad news for The Leaky BrainMike Gravel has only raised $0.2 million.
  • As I mentioned last week, I’m a sucker for looking at my stats, and I especially love to look at the map that shows where people are lurking from.  I’ve kept a list of all the states and countries visitors have come from.  I’m up to 45 different countries that I’ve noticed.  I especially like the small, lesser-known countries like Macedonia, Barbados, Cyprus, and Slovakia.  For U.S. states, I’ve had a visitor from 47 of the 50 states, the only holdouts being Alaska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.  I check the map all the time for a visitor from those states.  I know, I’m a dork.

Random Thought Thursday

My random thoughts for this Thursday:

  • Phishers: Why do phishers go through all of the trouble to design an e-mail with convincing logos, links, etc. and then not take the time to check their horrible grammar, spelling, and punctuation? I’m sure that’s really losing them a lot of stolen identity business. (In case you don’t know, phishing is when someone sends you a scam e-mail to look like it’s coming from your bank or a website, usually telling you that they’re tightening their security or that there may have been a security breach with your account information. Then they ask you to provide personal information such as a SSN, your user id, and your password so they can steal your identity or make withdrawals from your bank account.)
  • 9/11 Truthers: Did you see those 9/11 Truthers making a scene during a live showing of Bill Maher’s TV show? Those 9/11 Truthers, who believe there was a government conspiracy that blew up the World Trade Center on 9/11 are clowns, and scarily more and more people are beginning to believe them. Their beliefs include that the twin towers were brought down with controlled explosives, that a missile (not a plane) was shot into the Pentagon, and that non-commercial airplanes (not the American and United planes) crashed into the twin towers. I’ll post more about them in a future post, but their proof and logic are idiotic.
  • Metrolink Trains: The traffic in Southern California, as you all know, is horrible. I usually, when I can, take the Metrolink train to work. I can never figure out why more people don’t ride it. It’s cheaper than driving, it’s reliable, it’s much more relaxing than sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic not knowing when you’re going to get to work or home. I know some people simply can’t ride because of their work schedule, but most people could make it work.
  • Presidential Campaign: Aren’t you already sick of the presidential campaign? It seems like they started campaigning so early this time around. Is anyone even watching the debates? I haven’t watched a single one. And the money they’re raising – it’s crazy. I saw where Hillary Clinton currently has $90 million in her campaign chest. My prediction for who will win the nominations: Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney.
  • Bush/Clinton Dynasty: Can you believe that, if Hillary Clinton is elected President, by the time she finishes her first term in office that there will have been either a Clinton or Bush in the White House for 32 consecutive years! It all began in 1980 when the senior Bush was elected VP, he was VP from 1980-1988 and President from 1988-1992. Bill Clinton took over from 1992-2000 and George W. from 2000-2008. I think we need someone other than a Clinton or Bush for a change.
