The other night I was looking for some new music to add to my iPod (while I wait for Jack Johnson’s new album to be released next month) and opted for Band of Horses. This is their second album, but I’d never listened to them before. Let me say that I fell in love with their music on the first listen. They kind of remind me of Counting Crows. If there’s any other great new music that you’ve recently discovered please let me know….I’m always looking for new stuff.
By the way, Jack Johnson has a letter to his fans on Amazon.com about his upcoming album. Reading it made me even more excited about it. In the letter he says:
My friends and I have just finished recording a new album called Sleep Through the Static. At this point in my life I weigh about 190 lbs and my ear hairs are getting longer. I also have a couple of kids. My wife popped them out, but I helped. Some of the songs on this album are about making babies. Some of the songs are about raising them. Some of the songs are about the world that these children will grow up in; a world of war and love, and hate, and time and space. Some of the songs are about saying goodbye to people I love and will miss.

VH1 has issued it’s list of the top 100 songs of the 90’s. The ranking was based on an online poll.
Here’s the top 10:
- Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
- One - U2
- I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
- I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
- Vogue - Madonna
- Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-A-Lot
- Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
- Waterfalls - TLC
- Losing My Religion - R.E.M.
- Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O’Connor
It’s sad that “I Want It That Way” was voted the third best song of an entire decade. I’m surprised MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” (#16) or Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca” (#28) didn’t crack the Top 10.
There’s some really great songs (at least some of MY favorites from the 90’s) further down the list:
- Jeremy - Pearl Jam (#11)
- Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers (#15)
- Jump Around - House of Pain (#24)
- Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden (#25)
- Wonderwall - Oasis (#35)
- 3 am - Matchbox 20 (#48)
- Criminal - Fiona Apple (#55)
- Mo Money Mo Problems - Notorious B.I.G. (#63)
- I’ll Be - Edwin McCain (#66)
And some really crappy/silly songs that I never want to hear again as long as I live made the list too:
- MMMBop - Hanson (#20)
- Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice (#29)
- Gonna Make You Sweat - C&C Music Factory (#36)
- Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch (#47)
- Believe - Cher (#74)
- Jump - Kris Kross (#75)
- I’m Too Sexy - Right Said Fred (#80)
- Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus (#87)
- Rico Suave - Gerardo (#100)

On Sunday evening we went to Mass. Church is an adventure with The Babito, especially since he’s been able to walk. He never wants to sit on our laps. He loves to stand up and hold onto the pew in front of us. Whenever the choir sings, especially if it’s a more upbeat number he likes to dance. Too bad we’re not Baptist, because The Babito would fit right in. Except for when he starts crying during the readings or the eulogy. I spend a lot of time at church out in the foyer with The Babito.
This Sunday was the funniest though. The choir was being backed up by a piano, guitar and drummer, so they were really rocking out, at least for church. Right after the Eucharistic prayer, the choir broke into the “Hosanna in the Highest” song, and The Babito started getting jiggy with it.
Now for those of you unfamiliar with the Catholic Mass, this is the most sacred part, right before the priest starts the Communion rite. The song ended and there was complete silence in the church. Right at that moment, with the song just ending, The Babito (and I’m not even exaggerating here) yells out “Yeah!” and starts clapping. My wife and I could barely contain our laughter, and everyone around us got a kick out of it too.

- I removed the Google ads. They were just too annoying for me, so I can imagine how annoying they must be for you too.
- I turned off autostart on the music player. It’s still there in the sidebar, but you’ll have to hit play if you want to hear the music. I’m thinking about changing the playlist to all Christmas music.
- I changed the theme. Please let me know what you think.

Question: Isn’t Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) only 14? Isn’t she a little too young to be dressing like this? Or am I just getting old and out of it? I wonder what Billy Ray thinks about it?
