Reflections from 2007

Published by Daddy Dan under Meme, Personal, Love, Life, Family, Babito

I found this meme (slightly edited) on the Perpetual State of Flux site. It deals with reflections from 2007, which is an interesting topic since the year is winding down.

1. Where did you begin 2007?

I began the year in Corona, in the same job, and with a little four-month old son, otherwise known as The Babito.

2. Were you in school any time this year?

No, unless you count one-day seminars at work that included diversity training, sexual harassment training, and ethics training. All three were a waste of time.

3. How did you earn your money?

As a project manager for a large utility company.

4. Did you have to go to the hospital?

Unfortunately, yes. My Dad had surgery to remove an aneurysm in January and was in the hospital for a few weeks. He’s doing great now. We also had to take the Babito to the emergency room once because of a rash. (Yes, we can be overprotective at times!) He’s fine too. =)

5. Did you have any encounters with the police?

Nope. Well, once. I drove through a sobriety checkpoint but they waved me right through. Didn’t even ask me if I’d been drinking.

6. Where did you travel this year?

We traveled very little this year. I hope to change that in 2008. We did go to Disneyland overnight. That was, incredibly, our only overnight stay anywhere!

7. What did you purchase that was over $1,000?

New living room furniture from Levitz (since they went bankrupt does that mean I don’t have to pay them when our payment is due in 2011?) and the Babito’s wall unit from Pottery Barn kids.

8. Did you know anyone who got married?

Not that I can think of right now. My cousin’s getting married just after New Years.

9. Did you know anyone who passed away?

No, thank God. It was a good year.

10. Biggest surprise?

How much the Babito has changed and grown during the year!

11. Did you move?

No

12. What concerts/shows did you go to?

Not a single one, unless you count the Tiki Room at Disneyland. We didn’t even go to the movies in 2007!

13. Are you registered to vote?

Yes

14. Describe your birthday.

Nothing really special. We went to eat at Lucille’s with my parents and brother and his family. The Babito’s birthday is one week before mine, so I have a feeling my birthdays aren’t going to be big deals any more, which is fine with me.

15. What’s one thing you thought you’d never do but did in 2007?

Nothing really comes to mind. Maybe starting and maintaining a blog and learning enough about computers to set up my own blog and website.

16. What has been your favorite moment?

Probably the times we spent with the Babito, either in our pool or at Disneyland.

17. What’s something you learned about yourself?

That I’m capable of being a good father and that the extent of my love for my wife and son knows no bounds. I also learned, when my dad was in the hospital, that we need to make the most of each precious moment we have with loved ones.

18. Any new additions to your family?

Not my immediate family (maybe in 2008). My cousin had a baby last week! A baby boy, Dylan, who hopefully will be a great playmate for the Babito.

19. What music will you remember 2007 by?

Feist, James Blunt, Mindy Smith, James Morrison, Brandi Carlile, Amy Winehouse, Five for Fighting, Kenny Chesney. I looked at my iTunes and realized that I bought mostly older music this year (The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Elvis, Tom Petty, Prince, Bee Gees, etc.)

20. What books will you remember 2007 by?

A Thousand Splendid Suns, Water for Elephants, No Country For Old Men, The Glass Castle (my favorite of the year), A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, Blood and Thunder, 1776, Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life, Infidel, The Reagan Diaries, The War

TAG: I’m tagging everyone who wants to let us know how their 2007 went.

Tagged for a MeMe

Published by Daddy Dan under Parenting, Meme, Love, Life, Babito

Valley Girl has tagged me, among others, with a meme.  This is my first one, so bear with me.  I’m supposed to give six interesting facts about myself, so here goes:

  1. I met my beautiful wife through my Dad.  About two years before we met my Dad hired her into his department.  (we work for the same company).  He tried to get me to meet her for a long time, but who wants to be set up by his Dad?  Finally, we met at a Company softball tournament and the rest is history.  My wife says that when he interviewed her he was really interviewing for a daughter-in-law.  I’m grateful that he hired her.  Moral:  If your parent wants to set you up, let them do it.
  2. We named the Babito after his Grandpa, who was named after his Grandpa.
  3. I’m a night owl who doesn’t need much sleep to function.  I usually only get 4-5 hours of sleep a night.
  4. I’ve become addicted to blogging.  I check my stats and comments WAY too often.  I need help.  But I don’t let blogging interfere with my time with the Babito.  No blogging from the time I get home from work to the time Babito’s asleep in his bed.  I value my time with him more than anything.
  5. I’m an overprotective father, but I think I’m starting to get a little better.  I used to check on Babito in his crib many times each night.  Now I only do it a few times.  Also, I act like no one else (besides my wife) knows how to handle a baby.  I’m nervous when other people are holding him or watching him.
  6. My personal goal in life is to write a book and become a best-selling author.  I just don’t know yet what I’m going to write about.

Now it’s my turn to tag, and I’ll pick three people:  The Leaky Brain, Virgilius, and Nick
