I can’t get my head around the fact that The Babito is going to turn three in three short months. What happened to my little baby boy?

Time goes by so fast. He’s gone from a helpless infant to a bright, sensitive, hilarious, scheming, daredevil of a little boy.
One good thing about him getting older is that the quality of his toys (under the Daddy-friendly categorization) keeps getting better. I’m looking forward to when he fits into the age category for electric racetracks and video games. (He already loves to play “Pocket God” on my iPhone.)
What age-appropriate toys does a toy-loving Daddy need to know about? Please share them in the comments!
Also, we’re trying to figure out what to do for his birthday. We had a huge pool party at our house for his first birthday, complete with catered food and a clown. For his second birthday, we had a smaller party at My Gym.
Right now we’re leaning toward either having another party at My Gym or having a smaller party at our house. Barney may even show up if we have a party at home.
What have you done for a toddler’s birthday? Any great ideas out there?

i had the huge, obligatory party for 1… then for 2 i did super small. it all just ends up being a party for all YOUR friends, you know?> lol
for 3, i had a party at the park- simple with pizza and cake and fun-ness. blake got a little scooter and baseball stuff and golf stuff that he loved. kids are easy at that age. they like anything.

For my son, for the one year old birthday we did the big hoopla at the park. But I think for 2 we are going to make it much smaller, go to disneyland with mommy and daddy have a lil bday party.
3 years old huh? Where did the time go?

We just did our son’s third birthday at Bounce U, a place with those giant, inflatable bouncing things. He had a blast.

Three? Already?! Where did the time go?
For our daughter’s 3rd birthday we had a party at home in the backyard. One of the big hits was a small parachute I bought. All the adults held the edges and the kids ran under as we lifted it up and down. A bounce house is always a hit with toddlers, too

To me, the best gifts are those that challenge the imagination most. When I was a boy, I had just the basics: the Barrel of Monkeys, Hot Wheels cars, Big Jim (an equivalent to GI Joe), a bicycle, picture-books, Play Dough, the yo-yo, board games, little dinosaurs, a record player, a ball, rubber-band guns, etc. My parents could afford fancier stuff, but wisely stayed with the basics.
I believe every kid should have the basics first–those age-old things that really make learning fun.

The Babito is a sharp dressed man. Although we try to be conservative with party planning, we always end up going overboard. What happened to the days when kids were satisfied with a birthday cake and a game of musical chairs?

You've decided to fill your jungle with a whole array of Mod Monkeys. And, just like their little hero, your birthday guests will be ready for a fun time. Make sure you supply it, and don't drive yourself bananas in the process, with some Mod Monkey birthday party supplies.
