Daddy Dan

We’ve had a good initial turnout for the Bookworm Challenge in the last post.  We currently have approximately 20 participants.  It’s not to late to join in the fun.  I’ll be accepting new applicants until Friday, January 16th.

Yesterday I sent out an e-mail to those who indicated their interest in participating.  Here’s what the e-mail said:

Hi Everybody!

I’m glad you’ve decided to participate in the inaugural Bookworm Challenge at Daddydan.net.  It should be a lot of fun!  We have 18 entrants (including me) as of today.  I’ll allow new contestants in until the end of January.

RULES
Here are the official rules, which I reserve the right to change/expand as the year goes by:

1. The contest starts as of 1/1/09, so any eligible books read in 2009, even ones read before the contest started, will count in the totals.
2. I will track all of your books on a separate page on Daddydan.net.  I’ll send an e-mail out every week asking you to update me on what you’ve read and what you’re currently reading.
   
3. I’ll post the current standings each week in a post.
4. If you send me a short review of the book(s) you’ve completed I’ll also post those, either in a post or on the Bookworm Challenge page.
5. List of ineligible books include:  Text books, books intended for children only (e.g. Harry Potter books would be ELIGIBLE, Dr. Seuss books INELIGIBLE), Books read solely related to your work.
6. If you have any question about the eligibility of a book, please ask me.
7. I have the right to exclude anyone, at any time, for any reason.
   
8. There will be separate prizes for Most Books Read and Most Pages Read.  The prizes will be announced at a later time.

That’s it.  I don’t want to have tons of rules for this contest.  The contest is meant to help motivate us all to read more and to just have fun.

PRIZES
If you have any prizes you’d like to donate to the prize pool, please let me know.  I’m donating a $25 Amazon.com gift card.  Please let me know if you want to donate something.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU

1. Please send me a list of the books you’ve read, with both book title and author (and an Amazon.com link, if possible).
   
2. Also let me know which book you’re currently reading, along with what page you’re on in that book.
3. Optional: a short blurb/review/rating of the books you’ve read.  The ratings should go from 1 to 10, with 10 being best.
   

If you’d like to participate, please send me an e-mail at danthedaddy@gmail.com, and provide responses to the three questions in the WHAT I NEED FROM YOU section above.

I’ve set up a page to track the contest.  It’s shown as BOOKWORM in the header above.  It’s not finished yet, but you can see the general outline HERE.  That page will also have standings at the top of the page.

Lastly, someone asked me if graphic novels are eligible.  My initial answer is yes, but I’m interested in what everyone else thinks, so please let me know in the comments what you think.  Also, please let me know if you have any other ideas for rules, prizes, or anything else related to the contest.
