As you may have heard, Disney is investing over $1 billion to improve its California Adventure theme park in Anaheim. They’ll be adding new rides and shows and improving the rides they already have. A detailed project tracker for all of the changes can be found at MiceChat, a popular Disney chatroom. If you’re a Disney fan, be sure to check out MiceChat.com.
The changes include:
- A new Little Mermaid Ride
- Adding a new land, Carsland, which will be themed on their hit movie, “Cars”
- Retheming the Paradise Pier area and adding a parachute-type ride
- A new “World of Color” watershow in the big lagoon
- Adding a beer garden area
On Monday, the “Blue Sky Cellar” will be opening in California Adventure. The Blue Sky Cellar will provide sneak previews, including scale models and concept art, for the upcoming changes.
The following pictures show the new Blue Sky Cellar and some of the models and concept art you can view for yourself. In addition, if you’re an annual passholder, you can get a sneak preview of the Blue Sky Cellar this weekend, before it’s opened to the general public.

Thanks for the update, Dan. We are headed down to LA this winter for a family get together that we do every year. We’re going to take an extra day and wanted to hit either old school D-land or CA Great Adventure. Which one would you recommend? No pressure!

Yep, it should make California Adventure a lot better. I do like it now though, as is. Since we have annual passes, we head over there if Disneyland is too crowded. Plus California Adventure sells alcohol (they also have wine tasting), Disneyland doesn’t.
Hi Jenna,
Well, your little girls would probably like Disneyland best, especially if you’ll be there during the holidays, as Disneyland goes all out with the Christmas decorations.
Disney sells a park-hopper ticket (for only a more than the single park ticket) that lets you go to both parks in the same day. That’s probably what I’d do.
Have fun!

Thanks for this cool update, as well as the link to MiceChat. I am a huge life-long D-land fan, and just this last summer we discovered how great Cali.Adventure can be, especially with little kids. At first we thought it was a little light on the attractions, but came to appreciate the space and relative lack of crowds….plus the little ones love the water features (bring extra clothes and plastic bags for wet stuff!) and “Bug’s Life” rides. “Ariel’s Grotto” was a big hit too. I agree that the food options are WAY better at Cali Adventure, and “Soaring Over California” is hands-down the BEST ride EVER, ANYWHERE!
