Romi of “Year of the Chick” is one of the funniest bloggers you will ever read. She’s been in my blogroll since I’ve started blogging and I still get a little excited when a new post from Romi shows up on my Google Reader. Since January she’s renamed her blog “Year of the Chick” as she’s gone on a so-far fruitless search for her soul-mate. The search has been hilarious.
Here’s my interview with Romi from “Year of the Chick”:
Daddy Dan (DD): How long have you been blogging?
Romi: I was so frustrated with things not going right in terms of my writing pursuits, so this was a last ditch attempt to channel out some creativity (a well as release my insane thoughts, haha).
DD: Why do you continue? What do you get out of it? How long do you think you’ll continue?
Romi: I so enjoy expressing myself on a personal level, and also giving my writing chops a little practice. I re-designed/re-named my blog to “Year of the Chick” in January, so I guess it will end in…December?
DD: Tell us a little about your blog.
Romi: It’s basically a journey of one desperate chick to find a soul-mate by the end of the year, before her parents trap her in an arranged marriage (haha, funny ’cause it’s true!).
DD: Why should people read your blog?
Romi: I don’t know if people SHOULD read my blog. It’s disturbing at times, and odd…and mildly inappropriate…haha…you’ve been warned! ;-)
DD: What types of blogs do you enjoy? Can you provide a list of your five favorites?
Romi: I could never narrow them down, as I’ve come across so many great ones; I would encourage anyone to check out my blogroll. It has become an extensive list of great blogs, and personally, I love blogs with a humour and a personal touch.
DD: What are you favorite non-blogging activities?
Romi: I would say writing is one (but often that includes blogging), reading, eating junk food without feeling guilty (but that doesn’t happen a lot, haha), going for walks alone downtown, and watching movies.
DD: What is the secret to happiness?
Romi: Will someone please help me with that one? Hahaha…
DD: What is your favorite quote?
Romi: “Love is a serious mental disease.” – Plato
DD: What has been your biggest regret?
Romi: We all make mistakes, but I don’t want regret to be any part of my life…keep soldiering on, and learn something along the way. :-)
DD: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Romi: Hopefully with my soul-mate (*sigh*), maybe a kid or two, and hopefully a full-time writer. :-)
DD: Do you monitor your blog stats?
Romi: I for sure monitor my blog stats…gimme more! LOL…
DD: What are your favorite places in the world?
Romi: My favorite place in the world is yet to be determined, as I haven’t seen near enough of it…I feel like it would be somewhere in Europe though…I just have to go there and see it!
DD: What are five things you want to do before you die?
Romi: I want to fall in love for good, do a multi-song karaoke performance for a room full of strangers, travel around Europe, write a book, and eat an entire cake without feeling sick.
DD: Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
Romi: Most people don’t know that I am a very talented wrestler (…I’ll let you decide if I’m just being ridiculous with that response). ;-)
DD: So what happens in December when the “Year of the Chick” is over? A new theme? I guess it depends on how successful your man-search is, right?
Romi: Well, if I find a man, I sure won’t be blogging about being single anymore…and even if I don’t find one, it’s the “Year” of the Chick, so I guess I’ll have to find a new way to talk about life, because I do love blogging and writing…it would be weird to end it in 4 months. Maybe the next one can be “Chronicles of Desperation”? Hahaha…I guess I’ll know for sure when I get there.
DD: You recently had an article published on Glamour.com. How did that come about?
Romi: That was the most random thing. There is a “Single-ish” blog on Glamour.com (in addition to several other blogs). It is authored by two people; one a woman who gives her take on dating, and the other one a single man. The man (Ryan) somehow found my post about how I want to see Naked Man Sculptures everywhere, and he left me a comment, saying he was going to link it to his next post on Glamour. Well he did, and I got a lot of traffic from Glamour for a couple of days. I thanked him and we exchanged a couple of emails. He then suggested that I submit a guest post for the Glamour blog, and so…I wrote something, and it made it in! It was very exciting and a great way to expand the reach of my blog. I hope I get to do it again sometime!
DD: What qualities are you looking for in your perfect soul-mate?
Romi: Well I have come to learn that no one else is perfect, and neither am I (far from it). However I am a dreamer, and I do believe that there is someone out there who, out of all the people, is “most” perfect for each of us. For me, that person would be full of kindness and also humour. Like two very different sides of the same coin. I feel that way because I too am a ridiculous freak who also taps into the serious side of life. I need someone who can be on that wavelength too. It is hard to find…that’s for sure.
DD: Near the start of “Year of the Chick” you described yourself as “Nearly slim, almost busty, somewhat young, variably domestic, a little bit crazy, but…very sentimental.” What attribute would you change about yourself, if you could?
Romi: I would just change my body overall to be better looking. Like some better curves in different places, vs. the disproportionately big lower-middle-section that I carry. Haha…I guess that sounds funny, but I suppose most people hate something about themselves…lol.
DD: When you do end up writing a book, what is it going to be about?
Romi: I would like a book to be related to my blog…just about life, about love, about being a girl afraid of growing up…the right mix of truth and ridiculousness…I think my blog would be a jumping off point to any book I write
DD: Which of your posts do you consider your best? What has been your most hit-on post?
Romi: I’m hoping that one of my recent posts is my best, because I try to be a constant critic. Like I look back to some of the stuff that I wrote at the beginning of the year and even a few months ago, and I hate it now….haha. I can’t pick a favourite at this time, maybe the readers of my blog have their favourite. And my most hit on post continues to be “Not So Indian Porn”…somehow I think that the hits don’t relate to people who are interested in the writing, hahaha…I didn’t realize the impact of putting “Indian Porn” in a post title and the related Google searches, but I guess people want to know about their Indian Porn!

Romi is very right about the porn google searches. Almost all my search hits have something to do with porn that probably wasn’t in any of my posts, although I do talk about it a lot. Great interview.
Joshs last blog post..I’m moving to Wordpress. Peace out.
