We had a wonderful weekend (do I sound like Happy Working Mom?) celebrating Babito’s birthday. He also reached some milestones this weekend and started off with a new day care provider today.
Let’s recap in lazy bullet form:
- Friday (his actual birthday): We took him to Disneyland. His Papa and Nana met us there. The first thing we did was stop off at City Hall to get him his birthday button. He enjoyed the many Disney “Cast Members” that wished him Happy Birthday throughout the day. As you can see in the last post, he was finally tall enough to ride the kiddie roller coaster in Toon Town. He was holding tightly to my arm through the entire ride and was screaming. I didn’t know until we got off whether he was screaming in fear or excitement. It was excitement. We went on all his favorite attractions, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, the train, carousel, and The Tiki Room. We also got pictures with Mickey Mouse, Pluto, and Goofy.
- Saturday we lounged around the house all day, relaxed, and played with his new Thomas trains. When Babito went down for his nap, Mommy and Daddy did too. Disneyland is tiring!
- Sunday we went to visit my Grandma (Babito’s “Granny”). She’s been feeling ill lately, and Babito’s visit really cheered her up. My parents gave him his birthday presents (two Black & Decker toy workbenches). He’s been ‘fixing’ things around the house every since.
- Monday we went shopping at Victoria Gardens and got him some shoes with velcro closings (they’re required at his new day care). I think Babito had a crush on the salesgirl that helped us with the shoes. When she went to the back of the store to get more shoes he kept asking me where the lady went and was excited to see her return.
- The other day my wife asked Babito to say his ABCs, thinking he would say at least a portion of them. He said his entire ABCs, even the “next time won’t you sing with me!” part. I think the Barney DVDs are starting to pay off. Still, I can’t wait until he graduates to Disney movies.
- Today Babito started at his new day care and everything went great. He now has 5 other kids to play with, two older than him and two younger. He cried when Mommy started to leave but quickly adapted to his new surroundings. The day care provider called my wife five times today to let her know Babito was doing great. When I got home tonight, the phone rang and it was the day care provider calling just to tell us what a joy it is to have Babito there and to let us know that we’ve done a great job with him. It was nice to hear.

You do sound like me
First of all…he’s so stinking cute! I’m sure Mickey was having a blast sitting there just looking at him!
Second of all, what a great birthday weekend for him! I’m sure he had so much fun and enjoyed every second of it!
And third, I’m so glad that his new daycare went so well. I know how hard it is adjusting kids to a new caregiver. And it sounds like you found a real winner! Trust me, I’ve never had someone call me during the day to give updates…I always had to call them the first couple of days!

Momisodes: Thanks! Yes, we all had a great weekend. I can’t believe he’s grown an inch in the past month. He was way too short for the rollercoaster and now he’s tall enough. He’s still talking about riding it. I think he thinks he was brave. =)
Debbie: I thought of you right after I wrote that! We’re very relieved that he adapted so well and so quickly. He really likes both the provider and the kids. I’m so glad.
Sensibly Sassy: Yes, anyone can get one! I’m getting one on Sunday. (I know, I’m a dork.)
Katelin: Thank you, it was!
Romi: Do they have a Disneyland in Toronto? I’m so getting one for my 30-somethingth!

I’d love to take my girls to Disney, but Wisconsin is a lonnnnnnng way from… well… pretty much everywhere.
And your daycare provider sounds AWESOME.
