I’m writing this post on my Blackberry from the rocking chair in Babito’s room. Lately he’s been insistent on having me stay in his room until he falls asleep, which, unfortunately, takes a while sometimes. We’re listening to a Carnie Wilson lullaby album on his iPod. (Yes, Babito already owns an IPod, it’s a hand-me-down from Daddy)

Carnie is Babito’s favorite, and it’s become a bedtime ritual. If you don’t put it on for him he’ll make a specific request for it. I know all the songs by heart. They run through my head throughout the day. I sing them in the car on the way to work and in the shower. Her and Barney have become the internal soundtrack to my life, and I don’t mind so much because Babito loves the songs and the songs remind me of my little guy.

I’ve been sitting here for almost an hour now. Carnie is on her second play-through already. Babito is still awake. I would go a little crazy without the Blackberry. When we say our prayers before bed I add in a little prayer for the inventor of this little device.

Then again, it’s really not too bad sitting here. Just knowing Babito feels comfort and peace with my presence makes me feel good, and some day I won’t even be wanted in his room, let alone sitting with him until he drifts off to sleep. I’m going to enjoy it while I can. Plus I have Carnie to keep me company. (Though I wish it was the blonde girl from Wilson-Phillips instead – better visual)

Tune in tomorrow for an update on me and Babito’s wild weekend.
