As with many of the blogs I read, I can’t remember exactly how I stumbled my way to La Petite Chic, but I’m glad I did.

La Petite Chic, a happily married 5′3″ firecracker from Northern Virginia, blogs about her life, cooking, shopping, her travels, and her adventures with her husband Jonathan.  According to her ‘About’ page, she believes that “cheese makes anything taste better, that love at first sight does exist, that beaches are meant to be sunned on, that one can never have too many chapsticks, that you should walk barefoot in the grass at every opportunity, that rain on your wedding day is a blessing, and that life is meant to be shared.”

She’s a very engaging writer and photographer, and I highly recommend checking out her blog.

Here’s my interview with La Petite Chic:

Daddy Dan (DD):  Tell me a little about yourself.

La Petite Chic (LPC): I’m 26 and live with my husband and our dog in Northern Virginia.  I’ve been called a firecracker more times than I can remember because though I’m small in stature (5′3″), I have a very big personality and will stand up to anyone.

DD:  How long have you been blogging?

LPC: I’ve been blogging for almost a year and a half now.  I started in April 2007.

DD:  What got you started?

LPC: The first blog I ever read was Amalah and I thought, hey, maybe I can do this.  I always used writing as an outlet growing up and thought keeping a blog would give me that outlet while also helping to improve my writing.  I think (and hope) that it’s working!

DD:   Why do you continue blogging?

LPC: I continue to blog because I really love the friendships I’ve made through it.  It also helps me to remember all of the little things that go on in my life that would otherwise probably be forgotten.

DD:  What do you get out of it?

LPC: Honestly, it’s the friendships.  I’ve met so many wonderful people all because of my blog.

DD:  How long do you think you’ll continue?

LPC: I have my days where I want to throw in the towel, but then I think of all the blog friends that I would miss.  Plus, I can’t wait to post belly shots whenever I get pregnant!

DD:  Tell me a little about your blog.

LPC: My blog is extremely varied.  I write about recipes I’ve tried, great deals I’ve gotten, our travels, marriage and my day-to-day life.  It’s a little bit of everything!

DD:  What are your favorite “non-blogging” activities?

LPC: I love to shop, cook, bake, exercise, travel, walk my dog, read books (and gossip magazines!), drink wine and organize!

DD:  What is the secret to happiness?

LPC: Loving and being loved, not taking yourself too seriously, knowing when to say sorry and a clean house!

DD:  What is your favorite quote?

LPC: I actually keep a whole notebook full of my favorite quotes, but one of my all-time favorites is “Living is like licking honey off a thorn.” by Louis Adamic.

DD:  What, so far, has been the happiness moment of your life?

LPC: Getting married to my husband!  Even Hurricane Ernesto couldn’t wipe that smile off my face.  And yes, I think for the rest of my life I will always tell people that a hurricane hit Baltimore on the day of our wedding.

DD:  What has been your biggest regret?

LPC: Not taking my schoolwork seriously enough in college.  I barely ever studied!

DD:  Where do you see yourself in ten years?

LPC: I see myself as a mom, with a graduate degree and living in a beautiful house with my husband and kids.

DD:  What do you plan on getting your graduate degree in?

LPC: I’m still torn about what kind of graduate degree to pursue.  If I want to be practical, I’ll get my Master’s in Human Resource Management (the field I work in).  If I go after my heart, I’ll get my Master’s in either Creative Writing or Design of some sort.  I’m also toying with the idea of culinary school.

DD:  Do you monitor your blog stats?

LPC: I do.  I like to see who’s reading!

DD:  What are your favorite places in the world?

LPC: My home, my parent’s home, Jamaica, London and Germany.  Jamaica was one of our honeymoon destinations and I fell in love with the people and the beaches.

DD:  What are five things you want to do before you die?

LPC: I want to visit Asia, become a mom, start an animal sanctuary, make a living through some sort of creative means (writing, baking, etc…) and learn to drive stick shift!  I’m still waiting for my husband to teach me.

DD:  Tell us something most people don’t know about you.

LPC: 80% of my college fees were paid for by my track scholarship.  That makes me very proud.

DD:  That’s impressive!  What events did you run?

LPC: In high school, I ran cross country and in track, the 4×400 relay, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m.  In college, I ran cross country and the 3000m steeplechase.  They kind of make you specialize in one or two events in college.  An interesting fact about the women’s steeplechase is that women weren’t even allowed to run that race until my sophomore year of college (2001)!  I ran in the first sanctioned women’s steeplechase race in the nation and subsequently was nationally ranked for a bit (until the rest of the nation held their races!).  This is the first Olympics with the women’s steeplechase as an event.
