After discussing it with my wife (and it was actually her idea, but I agree), we’re not going to have a big birthday bash for Babito’s 2nd Birthday. Not only would it cost us a fortune, and not only would it create tons of stress in preparation, cleaning, shopping, etc, but Babito doesn’t even like it when we have a lot of people over at the house.
He tends to get a little stressed out, nervous, and clingy. And after all, it’s his birthday and we want to do something for him that he would really enjoy.
On the day of his actual birthday we’ll be going to Disneyland (it’s becoming a family tradition) but our current plan is to take him to San Diego for the weekend and hit up Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and maybe even Legoland.
We’re going to invite the family and some close friends, and provide them with a detailed itinerary of where and what we plan to do. Some may decide to spend the entire weekend with us, some may just come down for the day. Sounds like a much more relaxed and stress-free way for all of us to celebrate Babito’s birthday, and I know he will have a great time. And that’s what’s important.

For what it’s worth, we didn’t have a birthday party for our little girl’s 2nd Birthday. We did a big one for the 1st. Her birthday is the week after Thanksgiving, so it’s always a crazy time…she didn’t even miss having one.
Going forward, we will have one (we’ll invite some friends over for her 3rd), because she’ll ask for one…but not having a big ol’ huge party isn’t what’s important.

Dude, that’s exactly what we did for Z-Dub’s second birthday. Instead of a party we went out to SoCal and spent two days at Disneyland. We invited a few family members as well. I wouldn’t say it cost less, but it was definitely less stressful. Z-Dub had a blast!

CP: You’re right, he won’t even miss having one. We’ll definitely have them in the future when he’s old enough to like and appreciate them.
VegasDad: I remember you coming out to Disneyland. I loved that video you had of Z-Dub riding the teacups!

I think you’ll totally be glad you did it this way! I felt horrible for not having a big 3rd birthday party for my son, but in the end, his “special day” was a lot better than any party!!! And I didn’t have any stress about the day!
And you have a fantastic weekend planned out!

Debbie: I think we will be too. We may end up having a VERY small party for him at our house. Just the grandparents and godparents and a very few others. But it’ll be hot dogs and cake and that’s it!
