I forgot to mention earlier that we made it through a huge milestone on Friday. The Babito went out in public for the first time without his Mommy or Daddy. My parents watched him for us on Friday and asked if it was ok if they took him to Disneyland. Of course we said yes, but it still made us both nervous that he would be out in the world without us.
I dropped him off at my parents on Friday morning. I had a list of things (from my wife) I was supposed to tell them. I told them not to give him cotton candy (too much sugar), no popcorn (he might choke), don’t let him go on the rides by himself (that was my joke), etc.
My parents just laughed at me. We may be overprotective, but hey we’re allowed to be with our firstborn son, right?
Anyway, I did call them a few times during the day to see how he (and they) were doing. My dad said to tell my wife that “Babito loves cotton candy and popcorn. That’s what he had for lunch.”
My parents dropped him off at our house around 9:00pm. He was exhausted and went straight to bed. He had a great time, and Mommy and Daddy survived the ordeal as well.

I can absolutely understand your uneasiness. We’ve haven’t left our daughter alone with anyone out in the real world yet (not by choice, but due to lack of resources), but I would probably be calling every 30 minutes

It’s hard the first couple times, but then it gets easier
My parents kind of ignore my requests with the kids (actually, it’s really just my dad) and at first it would bug me. But then I stopped and really thought about my requests and how important they were in the grand scheme of things. So now, when I have things I seriously want done or not done, my dad takes me seriously

Debbie: My parents always say it’s their job to spoil The Babito, and I don’t really have a problem with it. I told my wife that my grandparents always spoiled me. Her reply was: “I know, and look how you turned out!”

My uncle who randomly enough owns a cotton candy machine that he rents out said that there is very little sugar to one spool of cotton candy… I am going to have to confirm this with him.
I am glad that Babito and his parents (hee, hee) survived the outing. I am sure that each time it will get easier for you. Grandparents are the best.

I call all the time too when the kids are not with me, it’s our right as parents:o)

Love the new layout, and I wanted to tell you that I’m pretty sure I saw the babito at Disneyland that day getting another toddler’s phone number. I wasn’t going to say anything – they grow up so fast, but I overheard him offer to buy her a cotton candy and some mouse ears. I hope me telling you and your wife is alright.
