My wife is down for the count with a fever, chills, headache, etc. I think she may be getting the flu. Anyway, with her in bed it fell on me to get the Babito ready this morning and take him to the babysitter’s on the way to work. Usually my wife handles most of these things in the morning, as she leaves later than I do and we usually let the Babito sleep as long as possible before we wake him up. All I can say is that I have a renewed sense of appreciation for all she does.
As an 18-month old (on Friday), the Babito has become very mobile. A new, fun game he’s developed is to try to be fully uncooperative when you’re trying to get him ready, either in the morning or for bed. For example, it’s guaranteed that when you remove his clothes and diaper for a bath he will take off at the speed of light and you end up chasing his little naked butt through the house, with him giggling all the way.
This morning, things went well until I took him downstairs and tried to put his jacket on. That little boy is quick, I finally got him to stop and put his jacket on by telling him “Bye, you can stay here with the doggies.”
He was in a great mood on the way to the babysitter, laughing, talking, and pointing to everything we were passing. His other new thing is to name everything he sees. Anyway, when I got to the babysitter and went inside to drop him off I swear he had a look on his face that included sadness, confusion, and, worst of all, disappointment. It broke my heart to leave him there (it ALWAYS does), and I was so tempted to take him with me and ditch work to go to Disneyland or something but didn’t because I am way too busy at work.
It’s really hard to be away from him so much. I can’t wait for summer to get here and for work to slow down a little so I can spend some real quality time with him. An hour or so each night and all weekend is just not enough time.

I hope your wife starts feeling better soon. And I agree it is hard to leave the kids and go to work.

Hope your wife feels better! Geez…everyone seems to be coming down with the flu. I’ve been hearing that the flu shots just weren’t very beneficial this year.

The babito sounds very agile. His uncooperative behavior reminds me of how I behave when my caretaker comes over in the mornings to get me dressed and ready for work. I giggle a lot and run around the house naked too. Sometimes she’s too tired to chase me though, and it’s not as fun.

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes. It was a short-term illness and she was back to being well after a few days.
Leaky: Sounds like fun to me!
