BREAKING NEWS: Pickle Attack!

Published by Daddy Dan under News, Humor, Breaking News

bob_farrell.jpg

According to MSNBC.com:

A judge gave a 35-year-old man probation in a case that police said involved an assault with pickles.

According to police reports, the pickle problems began when Bobby Lee Bolen was at his then-friend Jody Lee’s home on Aug. 20.

Bolen went to the refrigerator and helped himself to some pickles. According to the report, Lee told Bolen he could not afford to feed everyone and not to eat his pickles. Bolen then began yelling and swearing and stormed out, according to the report.

Later, Bolen barged back into the house and got into an argument with Lee. Lee told police Bolen slammed him down on the couch and threw two large pickles at him and said, “Here’s your damn pickles.”Bolen also shoved former friend J.W. Romanski III and beat Lee with a telephone when he tried to call emergency authorities, according to the report.

What kind of a host was Lee? You know you’re not in good financial shape when you can’t afford to share your pickle with a friend. At least Bolen, after seeing the error of his ways, went out and got two pickles to replace the valuable pickles he had eaten. And what kind of a man is Lee trying to call the authorities because of a pickle assault. The story doesn’t say if they were dill, sliced dill, or the little sweet pickles. Those key facts could determine which side I’d take in this story, but I’m thinking Lee deserved a phone bashing. What do you think?

Moral: If you don’t want to share your pickle with someone, keep it out of their sight.

Random Thought Thursday (they’re not really thoughts, more like comments)

  • I just checked my DVR to make sure it was planning on taping The Office for me tomorrow (tonight probably by the time most of you read this) only to find that it isn’t on the schedule! I went to NBC.com to see what was going on and it says that it IS on. What’s going on? I guess I’ll have to watch it live or tape the show my DVR says is going to be on in its place. It must have something to do with the World Series. They probably didn’t want to compete with it, but now that the World Series ended so soon they put The Office back on the schedule. Whew! What would I have blogged about tomorrow night?!?
  • It’s really quite sad, but my employer has blocked all blogs on our computers, including all Wordpress and Blogspot blogs. That sucks. Really, I promise, I was only looking at blogs on my lunch hour and breaks. The only way I can read posts now is through Google Reader, but I can’t comment. Boo hoo for me.
  • I was watching the Colbert Report tonight and they were talking about a website, Opensecrets.org, that allows you to see who is donating to the various presidential candidates. You can view the data in many different ways, including by state, zip code, city, or even look up individual donors. It also has the information for congressional candidates. Hillary Clinton leads the way with $90 million, followed by Barack Obama with $80 million, and Mitt Romney with $62 million. Bad news for The Leaky Brain - Mike Gravel has only raised $0.2 million.
  • As I mentioned last week, I’m a sucker for looking at my stats, and I especially love to look at the map that shows where people are lurking from.  I’ve kept a list of all the states and countries visitors have come from.  I’m up to 45 different countries that I’ve noticed.  I especially like the small, lesser-known countries like Macedonia, Barbados, Cyprus, and Slovakia.  For U.S. states, I’ve had a visitor from 47 of the 50 states, the only holdouts being Alaska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.  I check the map all the time for a visitor from those states.  I know, I’m a dork.

Babito’s First (Real) Halloween

Published by Daddy Dan under Humor, Halloween, Family, Babito

Well, Halloween’s come and gone, except for the stray group of 16 year olds with no costumes ringing the bell and waking up the Babito. I’d tell them to get lost, but I didn’t buy that insurance last night when I had the chance. Better to play it safe and give them what they want. That way nobody gets hurt.

I was surprised by how much the Babito enjoyed his first real Halloween (he was only 2 months last year). He liked his costume and kept it on all evening, even the hat with the honeybee on it. He ran to the door and eagerly greeted all of the trick or treaters. He usually gets scared when the doorbell rings, but not tonight. He wasn’t scared of any of the costumes or masks and he wasn’t even scared when I took him next door to my neighbor’s house, the one that always has his house all decorated with strobe lights, scary music, and scary decorations. I think he’s going to be a kid that loves Halloween, just like his Daddy did when he was young. I can’t wait for next year.

Happy Halloween

Published by Daddy Dan under Uncategorized

Happy Halloween to everyone! Be safe and be nice to the trick or treaters, especially any adorable hunny pots you come upon!

A funny thing happened tonight. Around 7:30 a group of girls rang our doorbell. They said they were from the cheerleading squad at our local high school. They were selling “Goblin Insurance” to raise money for their squad.

When I asked them what it was they said it was insurance to cover our house for Halloween. If anything happened tomorrow, like our house getting egged or toilet papered, they would come over and clean it up. I didn’t buy any. I should’ve asked them how much it was. Strange, huh?
